Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Policy Implementation

A regional office of the U.S. District Court undertook an ambitious initiative to develop and implement Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) policies, practices and processes across its workforce. Praxis HR led each step of the initiative, bringing the vision to life from a variety of angles.

ApproachOver the course of a few years, Praxis HR provided training about bias, cultural competence and other key DEI concepts, and facilitated the agency’s development of a mission-driven case for DEI. We also interviewed leaders to gain insight about areas of strength, areas of opportunity, desired tools and resources, and ideas for the most effective ways to advance the DEI initiative. We created a summary of their perspectives and used it to develop a set of recommendations to help advance the initiative.

OutcomesFrom training, leaders gained competence in key concepts including DEI, micro-aggressions and cultural competence. They demonstrated personal accountability for creating an inclusive environment on their teams and in the organization as a whole, and reported increased engagement and buy-in from their staff. They also developed a blueprint for fostering a workforce culture of openness and respect. The agency’s DEI commitment has worked to increase diversity, which is most evident in the hiring and promotion processes.
